Lovely County Citizen of the Week - July 22, 2009

Opal Fly has long served as not only an international embodiment of musical style and coolth, but as a catalyst for bands, musical events and all around sexy-voiced wonder from here to New Orleans to Europe. The "social aid and pleasure societies" of historic New Orleans formed to take care of their own and to have fun doing it, and Opal is a sort of one-woman metaphor for that concept, rallying for causes, playing her heart out, and breaking hearts all around the world with that sweet, sassy voice. Busker, bombshell and benefactor, that's our Opal.
